Prerequisites:

  • For the CSIA / CASI level 1 you have to be a confident skier or boarder all over the mountain.
  • For the CSIA / CASI level 2 you must have your level 1 certification.

COURSE OBJECTIVES & CONTENT:

The objective of the course is to equip you with the necessary skills to be a competent ski or snowboard instructor at the CSIA/CASI level 1 or 2 standard and to prepare you to successfully complete the CSIA/CASI level 1 or 2 course in week 4. A competent ski/snowboard instructor demonstrates effective skiing/snowboarding skills as an example for his or her clients as well as safe and effective teaching skills to improve the skiing/snowboarding of his or her clients and is able to cater to the individual needs and goals of his or her clients.

PERSONAL SKI/SNOWBOARD DEVELOPMENT
During the 3 weeks you will develop your riding through the Canadian approach. This will involve developing the 5 skills, namely a centred & mobile stance, turning from the lower body, balance on the edges, pressure control and timing & coordination, through terrain adaptation and through performance and free and fun tactics.

TEACHING SKILLS

  • Student Centred Teaching:
    You will learn how to cater to the needs and goals of each individual client.

  • Developing the Guest Experience Through Teaching
    You will learn to provide each client with an outstanding skiing/snowboarding experience through using the Canadian teaching approach, providing excellent guest service and effective communication skills for coaching.

  • Assessment and Development Skills
    You will learn how to or improve your ability to assess the skiing/snowboarding of beginner to intermediate clients using a systematic approach, to prioritize skills that need improvement, to set appropriate goals for your clients and to select exercises and tactics to effectively develop their riding.

  • Demonstration Skills
    Being able to perform technically correct demonstrations for your clients to copy forms a vital part of ski and snowboard instruction and therefore the necessary time will be devoted to developing your demonstration skills.

  • Teaching Children
    You will learn the methodology of teaching skiing/snowboarding to children through the Canadian approach (CSIA & CASI level 1).

  • Safety
    The safety of your clients becomes your responsibility in a lesson and therefore you will learn effective class management skills and safe teaching practices.
